Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal emits a light beam targeting the melanin in the hair follicle, to reduce hair growth lastingly. Results depend on hair colour, skin phototype and the area treated.

Who this treatment is for

  • Hair you no longer want to manage with waxing or shaving.
  • Repeated ingrown hairs on a specific area.
  • Skin irritated by repeated hair removal.
  • The laser targets the pigment in the hair: the darker the hair and the fairer the skin, the more effective the session. The preliminary assessment checks this area by area.

How a session unfolds

  1. Shaving the area, the day before or the same day. The hair must be present under the skin but not above it.
  2. A check of your phototype and of the absence of recent tanning on the area.
  3. Protective eyewear, for you and for the practitioner.
  4. The laser is passed over the area, shot by shot, with a skin cooling system.
  5. A soothing cream and sun protection are applied.

Duration and sensations

The appointment lasts 40 minutes. Each shot gives a brief sensation of heat, often compared to an elastic band snapping against the skin. Redness and a feeling close to sunburn are normal within 48 hours, as is slight swelling around the follicles giving a temporary goose-bump look.

How many sessions, and how often

Laser hair removal works as a course: the laser only acts on hairs in their growth phase, and not all of them are at the same time. A minimum of six weeks applies between two sessions on the same area. The package covers six sessions, to be adjusted to the area and to how you respond.

Indicative protocol : 6 sessions six to eight weeks apart.

Immediately afterwards

  • A soothing or emollient cream on the treated area.
  • Daily SPF 50 sun protection is essential, including before your next session.
  • No sun or UV exposure before OR after each session.
  • No waxing or tweezing between sessions: only shaving, otherwise the laser loses its target.
  • No very hot baths, sauna or steam room for 48 hours.
  • Contact us in case of blisters, a wound that is not healing normally, or a lasting change in skin colour.
